School and District Report Cards Available on District Website
School and District report cards are available for review on our District website at http://cbd9.net/curriculum/district-report-cards .  The report cards provide an overview of how our schools and district performed last year.  Information about how our district and schools compared to similar schools as well as the state is also included.  You will find valuable information about the strengths and weaknesses of our schools. However, it does not capture the spirit, passion, and dedication of the teachers and staff.

Please take a few minutes to review your school and district report cards. Printed copies are available at your child’s school. If you have any questions about your school’s report card, contact your child’s principal. If you have any questions about the district report card, contact Superintendent Dawn R. Granger at dawng@coos-bay.k12.or.us or 541-267-1310.

Welcome to Madison Elementary

Madison Elementary is the school community for approximately 400 Kindergarten through 3rd grade students this year. Madison’s attendance area reaches from just north of Charleston to Empire along Cape Arago highway. The school is minutes from the Pacific Ocean, offering many opportunities for visits to the tide pools, beaches, and the South Slough Estuarine Reserve.

Madison’s staff is made up of dedicated professionals who strive for excellence in student performance while also making the learning process as engaging as possible.

We encourage parent involvement through our Booster Club and volunteering through the SMART program or helping in the classrooms or library.

School Closure or Delayed Start Notification Process

Coos Bay Public Schools will utilize the Synrevoice automated phone system to notify families of school closures, delayed starts and other emergencies.

In the event of a closure or delayed start, the automated system will be activated, usually by 6:00 am, and all families will be called and given the message. Included in the message will be a phone number that you can call to get a recorded update. Please be sure your contact information is correct at the schools.

The information will also be sent out to via Flash Alert to the media and posted on the district‘s website at www.cbd9.net. If you would like to receive Flash Alert notification, go to  www.flashalert.net/news.html?id=1374. At that site, you can sign up to receive both text messages and e-mails for emergency alerts and news releases.

Principal’s Message

Dear Madison Families,

Next Wednesday, your student will be bringing home their first report card of the year. Please go over it with your child, reflecting on his/her learning. “What do you know now,  what can you do now” (in math, reading, writing, science), that you couldn’t do at the beginning of the year?

The report cards are meant to give an assessment of current level of skills, knowledge, and work habits. They are a measurement over the year up to this point. We give report cards twice a year and we conference with parents twice a year. These “reporting times” are a reflection of our desire to communicate with families, but should never be looked upon as our only communication. If you have questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher or the office. (541-888-1218) The “Best Practice” in education happens when there is clear, open communication between the parent, child, and school. It takes all of us!

Have a great weekend!

Arlene
